Extreme Ice is a multipurposeice rink and fitness center that doubles as the practice facility for the Charlotte Checkers professional hockey team. The challenge was lighting a space that could keep up with hockey pucks flying over 100 miles per hour and the four-year-olds learning how to skate at 3 mph.

Lithonia I-beam units were used to light the space. Six lamp units were used so that light could be controlled up to 4 different levels to match the lighting with the function, thereby saving energy by preventing unnecessary consumption. Long life T5 fluorescent lamps were used to maximize the time between lamp changes.
