In 2007, Bank of America Corporation announced a $20 billion initiative to support the growth of environmentally sustainable business activity to address global climate change. Bank of America's ten-year initiative encourages development of environmentally sustainable business practices through lending, investing, philanthropy and the creation of new products and services. Putting their money to good use, they committed $1.4 billion to achieve LEED certification in all new construction of Bank of America office facilities and banking centers. The first of which was the renovation of the BOA Corporate Center, which is the centerpiece of a thriving uptown Charlotte, NC.
Windows from floor to ceiling and an open workspace created a great opportunity to use and integrate natural and electrical lighting systems. Bank of America issued a grant to Professor Dale Bentrup of the college of Architecture at the University of North Carolina-Charlotte to study and analyze the effect of daylighting. One surprising attribute of the location of the building was the amount of reflected daylight being generated by the surrounding buildings.
Delray and Se‘lux lighting products with the new Lutron EcoSystem were used in conjunction with MechoShades automated window coverings for a successful lighting scenario.
