CMC – University serves patients throughout Mecklenburg and Cabarrus Counties. The emergency entrance needed to be large and free of obstructions to facilitate efficient movement of vehicles and emergency staff. Illumination was important not only for safety but as a means of recognition for approaching ambulances. A canopy built of Kalwall panels was designed with an appealing upward tilt. The problem encountered was where to place the lighting so that it was effective yet unobtrusive.

The solution was to place Elliptipar wet location fixtures above the back edge of the canopy. With their superior asymmetric distribution working in concert with the light diffusing properties of the Kalwall panels, an even, clean, and glare-free illumination of the canopy is achieved. This glowing beacon serves the functional needs of the hospital and its visitors while adding a striking aesthetic to the facade.
